Traditional pita bread has been around for thousands of years. Sophia’s Pita bread is created combining the freshest ingredients and then baked in a high-temperature oven. It comes as pocket pita or a flatbread pita.
The pocket pita is cut in half and filled with a variety of traditional foods such as thinly sliced, cooked lamb or beef, with a dash of powdered sumac or ground paprika. Then top it off with sliced tomatoes and onions. Finally, add two tablespoons of tzatziki sauce or plain yogurt. Get creative! The filling options are limited only by your imagination.
Cook, then thinly slice chicken breast, add yellow summer squash, mushrooms and black beans, chopped garlic and then add lemon juice and olive oil for a healthy treat.
Sophia’s also makes traditional Greek flatbread pita in the same way. The Greek pita has no pocket and is wrapped around your favorite fillings. Wrap Sophia’s Greek pita around lamb, beef or thinly sliced chicken then add in lively spices, such as cumin, red pepper or chili powder. Top it off with melted provolone cheese and fresh yogurt. Not ready to try lamb? Try sliced ham or turkey with Swiss cheese, shredded lettuce and mayonnaise or mustard for a great wrapped sandwich!
Traditional Greek pita also makes a terrific wrap for shish kabob! Marinate chunks of chicken or beef in your favorite marinade, then skewer the meats separating them on the skewer with sliced green peppers, red onions, mushrooms with a grape tomato at the very end. Barbecue the skewers. Wrap the shish kabob with the Greek pita. Add a splash of Italian dressing. Amazing!
Pizza!
In a hurry? Pizza in a jiffy! Preheat your oven to 350°. Place a Greek pita on a baking tray. Spread pizza sauce on the pita and then add shredded mozzarella cheese and top with thinly sliced pepperoni. Bake for 5-10 minutes.
Have more time for something gourmet? Go Middle Eastern! Place a Greek pita on a baking tray. Brush olive oil on the pita and then add thinly sliced cooked lamb with garlic, chopped mint leaves and pine nuts. Top this with feta and labneh cheeses, chopped tomatoes cucumber and dash it with ground za’ater. Bake for 15 minutes.
This Italian spin is even easier. Place a Greek pita on a baking tray. Liberally smear the pita with pesto sauce, then add four dollops of goat cheese, sliced roasted red peppers and six (or more if you dare) whole roasted garlic cloves.
Bake for 5-10 minutes.
